SAINT MARTIN'S TOAST | Saint Claire's Wine Shop

11. 11. 2023

The feast of St. Martin is not just a harbinger of winter but also a celebration of Saint Martin's wine! We cannot guarantee a snowfall, but we can promise a selected quartet of young wines and the opportunity to toast before noon. Starting at 11:00 a.m., you can enjoy not only our vintage 2022 but primarily the quartet of Saint Martin's wines from the Mádl Winery, vintage 2023. Let's unveil together their exceptional quality. Don't miss the picturesque vineyard dressed in its autumnal colors!

AND WHICH YOUNG WINES WILL WE BE TOASTING WITH?

The current assortment, in contrast to past years, is more restrained, though we haven't undervalued it. We are enhancing the range of our exclusive wines by introducing a trio of grape varieties authorized for crafting St. Martin's wine. These offerings comprise the latest vintage from the Mádl winery, and as per tradition, we will open them on November 11 at 11:00 a.m. Joining us in the wine shop will be our sommelier, Jakub, who is excited to engage in discussions about the wines.

  • Martin's Veltliner Red Early 2023
  • Martin's Müller Thurgau 2023
  • Martin's Zweigelt Rosé 2023
  • Martin's Blauer Portugieser 2023

St. Martin's wines mark the debut of the new vintage. These are fresh and fruity wines that, despite aging for a brief period of a few weeks, have already developed their unique character. Winemakers recommend enjoying these young wines until Easter when they preserve their delightful freshness.

Typically, the freshness and zest of young wines complement fattier dishes. The traditional St. Martin's Day feast often includes roasted goose alongside red cabbage and potato dumplings. Yet, there are numerous other choices to explore. Even among young wines, there are substantial variations. You might opt for a cheese quiche with bacon to complement one, and St. Martin's rolls filled with walnuts to complement another. Combine, experiment, savor - pairing wine and dishes is about enjoyment, not a weighty life choice.
