BONSAI AND JAPANESE CULTURE FESTIVAL | International Bonsai Exhibition

16. - 25. 6. 2023

Once again, you can look forward to a showcase of the finest bonsai trees from leading Czech and foreign bonsai artists, as part of a competitive bonsai exhibition with a rich Japanese-style weekend program. The International Bonsai Triennial, which takes place in Czechia once every three years, is also part of this year's exhibition.

Bonsai - the art of unlimited time span. Each piece is never "finished" - it changes throughout the seasons and becomes more beautiful each year.

The exhibition will feature over 100 carefully shaped trees from the botanical garden's own collections, as well as from bonsai artists from Slovakia, Germany, Poland, Mexico, and Lithuania. An extraordinary guest will be the Mexican grower and demonstrator, Enrique Castaño.

You will also have the opportunity to purchase bonsai and other plants on-site. Regular guided tours of the exhibition, led by our knowledgeable guides, are also available.

BONSAI TRIENNIAL

The highlight and grand spectacle of the exhibition will be the Bonsai Triennial, taking place from 23 June to 25 June in cooperation with the Czech Bonsai Association.

This prestigious international show rotates every three years between Czechia, Germany, and Poland. Each country can submit only 15 trees, and each artist can display only one tree, ensuring that only the best trees are selected. The event will also feature booths from bonsai associations of each country, as well as a joint demonstration of shaping techniques by representatives of these associations.

The Triennial and the display of the finest bonsai trees will be held in the exhibition hall located in the newly opened visitor center at the heart of the garden.

The formal announcement of the competition winners will take place on the evening of Friday 23 June, allowing visitors to admire the best trees of Central Europe during the weekend.
